Dr. Andrés Varela de Ugarte de Ugarte

Dr. Andrés Varela de Ugarte is a distinguished thoracic oncological surgery national consultant with a remarkable career spanning over 30 years. His expertise lies in the fields of thoracic surgery and lung transplantation, where he has contributed significantly to advancements in lung transplantation, oncological lung surgery, tracheal surgery, and the surgical repair of chest wall abnormalities. Dr. Varela de Ugarte earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid in June 1978 and completed his specialization at the same institute in 1983. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Varela de Ugarte has held key positions, including serving as the Head of Section of Thoracic Surgery-Lung Transplantation at Puerta de Hierro Clinic in Madrid from 1996 to 2007. Currently, he is the Chief of the Thoracic Surgery-Lung Transplantation Service at H.U. Puerta De Hierro Majadahonda and is associated with Quirón Salud University Hospital in Madrid. He is an active member of prestigious societies such as the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS), International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), and the Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgeons of Madrid (NEUMOMADRID).
