Univ. Prof. Dr. Reinhard Windhager has been appointed to the Professorship of Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery at MedUni Vienna, concurrently taking on the role of Department of Orthopaedics management. Born in Linz, Upper Austria, Windhager completed his orthopaedic specialist training in the 1980s at the Medical School of Vienna University. With expertise in tumour orthopaedics, as well as hip, knee, and spinal surgery, he assumed the leadership of the Department of Orthopaedics on February 15, 2010. During his tenure in Graz starting in 1997, Windhager showcased remarkable organisational skills, transforming the orthopaedic unit into a distinct Department of Orthopaedics with a comprehensive clinical spectrum. Recognized for his editorial contributions, he served on the advisory council of the orthopaedics magazine ("Zeitschrift für Orthopädie") and has been a co-editor of the medical journal Z ORTHOP UNFALL since 2003. As the newly appointed Professor of Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery, Windhager aims to enhance the international orientation of clinical expertise by elevating scientific visibility and increasing publication productivity. Emphasizing interdisciplinary musculoskeletal research, he also plans to expand the research laboratory within the Vienna Department, benefiting students at the Medical University of Vienna with his extensive experience.
