Prof. Dr. Florian Bassermann is a highly respected expert in hematology and oncology and serves as the Director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine III at Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich. His research focuses on understanding how certain types of cancer, such as blood cancers and lung cancer, grow and spread at the molecular level. He studies how disruptions in important cell processes, like DNA repair, immune responses, and cell death, can lead to cancer development.
Prof. Bassermann earned his medical degree from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2002 after studying in Ulm, Munich, and New York. He further expanded his expertise through a postdoctoral fellowship at New York University from 2006 to 2009. After returning to Munich, he led a prestigious research group funded by the German Research Foundation and became board-certified in internal medicine and hematology/oncology.
In 2017, he became the Director of the oncology department at Rechts der Isar Hospital. Prof. Bassermann has received several awards for his contributions to cancer research, including the ERC Consolidator Grant and the Theodor Frerichs Prize.
