Prof. Dr. Volkan Hazar

Dr. Volkan Hazar, born in Antalya in 1962, is a distinguished pediatric oncologist in Turkey, renowned for his expertise in various areas of pediatric oncology. Inspired by a teacher during his university days, Dr. Hazar decided to specialize in pediatric oncology, dedicating his career to the comprehensive care of young patients facing complex conditions. With an extensive educational background, he obtained his medical degree from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1985, followed by specialization in Child Health and Disease from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. Over the years, he earned accolades, including the title of Pediatric Oncologist in 1996, a master's degree in Oncology in the same year, and professorship in 2003. Dr. Hazar's professional journey spans various roles, starting as a General Practitioner at Savur Health Center in Mardin, Turkey, from 1985 to 1987. He later served as a Faculty Member at Akdeniz University, becoming a Pediatrics Professor at Mediterranean University, Antalya, from 2004 to 2013. His leadership continued as the Pediatric Specialist and Director of the Pediatric Unit Program at Medipol University from 2013 to 2016. During this period, he also served as the Director of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Department at Medipol Mega University. His contributions expanded to Medical Park Goztepe Hospital as an Oncologist and Oncohematologist from 2016 to 2019. Currently, Dr. Hazar serves as a pediatric oncologist at Memorial Medstar Antalya Hospital, where he continues to provide specialized care to young patients facing conditions such as Ewing's Sarcoma, Neuroblastoma, Hodgkin's Disease, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Leukemia, Burkitt's Lymphoma, and Lymphoma. An interesting facet of Dr. Hazar's career is his team's accomplishment of performing over 1000 bone marrow transplants. Notably, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Bone Marrow Transplant Department at Medipol Mega University Istanbul in 2013, further emphasizing his commitment to advancing pediatric oncology care.
