Following his graduation, he continued his professional development by specializing in Cardiac Surgery at the Heart Center Brandenburg in Germany, where he gained extensive experience in advanced surgical techniques for treating complex heart conditions.

Prof. Dr. Ioannis Tzanavaros is a highly experienced adult and pediatric cardiac surgeon and currently serves as the Director of the Cardiac Innovation Center at Apollonion Private Hospital in Cyprus. With decades of international surgical experience and advanced training in Germany, he is recognized for his expertise in complex heart surgery, congenital heart disease treatment, and minimally invasive cardiac procedures.

Originally from Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus, Dr. Tzanavaros studied medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. After completing his medical education and military service, he began his specialization in cardiac surgery at Cottbus, an academic hospital associated with the German Cardiac Surgery Center in Berlin.

He completed his specialization in cardiac surgery in 2007, the same year he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the surgical treatment of arrhythmias. Following his specialization, he continued to build an outstanding international career in Germany.

In 2010, he became a Consultant in Cardiac Surgery in Stuttgart, and by 2012, he was certified as a Congenital Heart Surgeon and Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon. His expertise led to his appointment as Deputy Director of Congenital Heart Surgery at the University Clinic of Hannover, one of Europe’s leading cardiac centers.

In 2016, he became the Director of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Congenital Heart Surgery in Stuttgart, Germany, where he performed highly complex procedures and advanced surgical treatments for children and adults with congenital heart defects.

Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Tzanavaros has performed more than 3,000 heart surgeries, treating patients ranging from premature infants weighing as little as 400 grams to elderly adults. He is also considered a pioneer in minimally invasive congenital cardiac surgery, helping improve recovery times and surgical outcomes for patients worldwide.
